The company has just returned from taking our successful production of
Ruddigore to treat the G&S fans attending the prestigious 15th international
festival at Buxton's famous opera house. The show was well-received by the
audience and also by the festival adjudicators. The company received nine
nominations in the various categories and one of these - Emma Southorn, best
character actress - took the top award in that category. The full list of
our success is available
here
.
Most importantly though it was another opportunity for the cast to join together
enjoying themselves and delivering a top-quality performance - and the audience
were not disappointed. Principals Russell Stratton, Gareth Edwards, Eve
Rapley, Rob Milner, Emma Southorn, Brenda Southorn, Norman Southorn, Richard
Ogden, Katherine Littler and Melanie Riseam all put in excellent performances
and were backed up by Abbots' typically strong chorus work.
At the age of 80, this was a fitting way for Norman Southorn's long career on
the stage to come to its conclusion and we look forward to Norman's unstinting
support of the Society to continue even though his work on stage may now be
complete.
