Richard Suart chorus workshop November 2008

Richard Suart's Masterclass - or "patter and potato"

To those who conceived and organised the day with Richard Suart, and you know who you are, a very big thank you from the elephant, the gorilla, the giraffe and the rest of the menagerie. This was a real coup, (Richard if I risk being sycophantic forgive me) and I hope not the last opportunity to learn from the 'greats' of light entertainment. Here's a man of quality, whose rich and mellifluous tones enthralled, amused, and persuaded us to let go of all sense of self respect and become the animal we always wanted to be. (Nice one chairman that's the best impression of a macaque monkey I've ever seen).

It was a bright crisp autumnal day in idyllic Garston Manor with its sumptuous interior richly coated with Laura Ashley raspberry emulsion, we were escorted in by a polar bear the size of a large dog and a colour coded cat, spookily mine host was called Alice!

So the day began ... with warm ups and quips and .. well he is the master of patter so here goes:

Well it’s not so easy, have a go yourself......

There were other highlights, Colin’s Kangaroo, Emma's cat, Tim's owl, to name a few, oh yes and we learnt how to speak to little people! This was fascinating, apparently if you repeat Ni Na Nu No Ni Na Ni Na Nu, at varying speeds and pitch, leprechauns who live in trees a hundred yards away, can understand every word!   Now that is something I will use again.

So a great time was had, rounded off with perfectly cooked spuds and fillings and promises to put this stuff into practice, but will we?? Oh yes , talking to leprechauns is like playing my tune ...NI Na NI Na Ni Na Ni Na Ni Na Ni Na.......
